About Spotted Lanternflies

Learn a bit more about the Spotted Lanternfly (SLF)!

Honeydew

This is a substance produced by Spotted Lanternflies from eating sap out of trees. Sap, which is like sugar water comes from trees and is eaten by Spotted Lanternflies for nutrients. Remaining elements of the sap are released from the lanternflies onto leaves and trees. This sugary substance attracts bugs such as wasps and can eventually cause mold. Overtime this combination of pests and mold can cause serious harm to host plants and even kill them.
